World Science Festival

Students enjoy one of the Street Science exhibits at the recent World Science Festival-Chinchilla.

Enthusiastic Year 9 and 10 students attended the World Science Festival Brisbane – Chinchilla on Friday 29 March.

Year 9 students started their session with presentations by Marwa Al-Ansary, Greg Devine and Jacqui Cavaglia and their work using recycled materials to create concrete, mosquitoes and science experiments in space. They then had a chance to complete experiments of their own. There was snow made from powder and water, bracelets made from UV light beads and rockets made from paper, to name a few.

Professor Adele Green provided the Year 10 students with an insight into her breakthrough research into skin cancer and the regular use of sunscreen before they were the given the opportunity to explore the Street Science exhibits.

Overall, the students enjoyed their day exploring how science is used in everyday life and the potential for future careers.
