On Friday, 30 January 2026, students will be participating in the Inter-house Swimming Carnival as part of our sporting program and school House culture.
Students should arrive at the Chinchilla Aquatic Centre (97 Middle Street) by 8.45 am and the carnival will finish at 3.00 pm. Students will travel to the venue by private transport. Students who catch buses can disembark at St Joseph's Primary School and walk to the pool under teacher supervision. At 3.00 pm students will be dismissed from the pool (or walked back to St Joseph's to catch the bus).
Students will participate in competitive and fun activities throughout the day. Race marshalling for 50m Freestyle will commence at 9.00 am; Breaststroke, Backstroke, Butterfly and Relays will follow throughout the day and novelty events will also take place.
Although we encourage all students to dress in house colours, clothing must be sun safe. When students aren't competing they should be wearing sleeved shirts (no singlets), shorts, hats and enclosed shoes. Sunscreen will be available and students are encouraged to keep hydrated throughout the day. The canteen will also be operating on the day. There will also be a BBQ with sausages for $2 (cash only).
Students should bring swimming attire (bikinis are not appropriate), swim shirts, swim shorts, towel, water bottle, lunch, goggles and a hat.
Prohibited items include: hair colouring, markers, jewellery, phones, silly spray and air horns.
Swimming is regarded as a high-risk activity. In order for students to get into the water, the school requires written permission from a legal parent/guardian. Permission notes are to be returned to M Block Staffroom by Thursday, 29 January 2026. Students will be cross-checked on the day of the carnival against a permission register. Students will not be permitted to swim if parental permission has not been given for the event; however, they will be able to spectate.
